“Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken”
The southernmost region, the last to join the Seven Kingdoms (by marriage rather than conquest). A land of scorching deserts, dry rivers called "sandstone," and proud people with Rhoynish blood.
Dorne was never conquered by Aegon I despite two attempts. His dragon Meraxes was shot down by a scorpion bolt and Queen Rhaenys was captured and tortured. Dorne joined the realm peacefully through the marriage of Daenerys Targaryen (not the same Daenerys) to Prince Maron Martell. Their independence of spirit has never wavered.
Hot and arid with desert terrain in the deep south (the Dornish Marches). Red Mountains separate it from the rest of Westeros. Scorching summers, mild winters.
Unique Rhoynish-influenced culture brought by the Rhoynar migration under Nymeria. More liberal customs including equal inheritance regardless of gender. Renowned for spiced food, poisons, and passionate temperament.
Excels at guerrilla warfare, poison, and cavalry (sand steeds). Can muster ~50,000 soldiers.
